The Agricultural Research and Education Centre (AREC) Raumberg-Gumpenstein (public body) is part of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism. Research topics include grassland management, ecological restoration, vegetation management and erosion protection. The Federal Institutions Act regulates the Austria-wide responsibility and competence of the research institute AREC Raumberg-Gumpenstein with regard to the "collection, processing, conservation and development of plant genetic material important for the cultivated landscape". Since the early 1990s, AREC Raumberg-Gumpenstein has been cooperating here with a partner who commercially implements the scientific findings and necessary preliminary work of our gene bank.

The established Gumpenstein Certificate of Origin (G-Zert) enables the conservation of regional wild plants and their genetic resources in their areas of origin. It promotes the production and use of regional wild plant seeds and thus contributes to the conservation of biodiversity in Austria.
